Wentworth Golf Club, Surrey
The fine West Course at Wentworth has hosted this flagship event of the European golf tour since 1984.
The Wentworth Golf Club has three championship courses, set in Surrey heathland surrounded by ancient, deciduous woods. The West Course was designed by Harry Colt, and was recently modernised by Ernie Els.
Wentworth is a members' club, but welcomes visitors year-round. The Wentworth Grill, which is run by Caprice Holdings (of Ivy and Le Caprice fame), provides gastronomic dining in elegant surroundings.
It has been the scene of legendary battles between such notables as Jacklin, Langer, Ballesteros, Faldo, Montgomerie and Woosnam. The 2009 tournament was won by Paul Casey.
The BMW Championship is the beginning of the championship golf season in mainland Britain, and a must for golf enthusiasts.
In 2010 the champion was the English player, Simon Khan. 2011 dates are provisional.
